God gives a warning to Pharaoh through Moses.

Excerpt from Enjoying Exodus: The Bible in Rhyme by Marcia Goldlist

God tells Moses to instruct Pharaoh that anything or anyone who he does not bring in from the field and conceal will be struck down from hail.

Bible Study Tools

Discussion Questions:

  • God told Moses to give a warning to Pharaoh. When is it good to give a warning to people?
  • What are consequences?
  • Pharaoh is told that everything should be brought in from the field and concealed. Who or what are these things and animals being concealed from?
  • God set down the consequences very clearly of what would happen to any people or animals found in the field. Why is it good to tell people what the consequences of their actions will be?

Creative Thinking:

  • When is it not a good idea to give a warning to someone?
  • When is it a bad idea to tell people consequences of their actions?

Homeschool Activities that are also good for non-homeschoolers:

  • Write someone a warning about something.
  • What kind of warnings are you given? Do you heed them or not? Why?
  • Compare a punishment with a consequence. How are they the same and how are they different?
  • Research hail.
  • Write a poem about hail.
  • Describe how you like to be asked to do something and why.
  • Interview Pharaoh about his decision to bring his people and animals inside.
  • Body language can tell us a lot about what a person really feels. Describe Pharaoh‘s body language while Moses was telling him what God said.

Bible Study Tools

Bible Talk

Discuss with your children:

  • How do you feel when you open a new book?
        • Are you excited?
        • Are you worried if you will understand it?
        • If the book is a part of a series do you worry if you will be able to connect it to the last book that you read in the series?

Creative Thinking

  • Do you prefer opening a crisp new book or a well worn book? Why?
        • How does each make you feel?

Homeschool Activities

  • Pretend you are a book. Write how you feel when someone opens you up to begin to read your story.
  • We often judge if we will like a book by its first paragraph. Make a list of things that you are judging?
  • Make a campaign for getting people to read one of the following:
        • books
        • different kinds of books than they usually read
        • really old books
        • new books
        • fiction books
        • non-fiction books
  • We are often told not to judge a book by its cover. What does this expression mean?
  • Do you judge a book by its cover? Why or why not?
  • Create a cover for a book about your life.
  • In future blogs we will discuss the book of Exodus. From the title what do you think the book is about? If you already know the basic story of the book of Exodus explain why you think this is an appropriate title or not.

Joseph tells his brothers he will still feed them and their children.

Excerpt from Enjoying Genesis: The Bible in Rhyme by Marcia Goldlist

Joseph’s brothers were afraid how he would act once their father died. They were worried not only about how Joseph would treat them, but also if he would still give them and their children food.

Bible Study Tools

Bible Talk

Discuss with your children:

  • Have you ever been worried about not having enough food to eat?
      • If not, what do you think that this would feel like?
  • Have you ever been really afraid of someone?
      • If you were, what did it feel like.
      • If you weren’t, what do you think it would feel like?

Creative Thinking

  • Name as many things as you can that make people afraid.
      • Order these things according to what you think is objectively the most frightening to the least.
  • Make a list of as many moods as you can.

Homeschool Activities

  • Research what moods people have and what puts people into those moods.
  • Write an instruction page on how to put someone into a good mood.
  • Write a letter to someone explaining to them how they put you into a bad mood.
      • Add a paragraph or two to the person explaining how they could have gotten you out of the bad mood.
  • Write a flyer with tips on how to stay in a good mood.
  • Joseph’s brothers were afraid of how he would treat them after his father was gone. Write a flyer with tips on how not to be afraid of your siblings.
  • Joseph’s brothers really were not nice to him, yet he forgave them. Create a billboard to get people to be forgiving.
  • Joseph told his brothers right away that he would still give them and their children food. It must be horrible to feel afraid that you will not have enough to eat. Think of a way that you can help a local food bank.

Enjoying the Book of Esther: The Bible in Rhyme is now available on Indiegogo.

The biblical book of Esther is now available in an easy to read and understand book – all in rhyme by Marcia Goldlist.

We women have come a long way! Let’s celebrate!

For those of you who are Christian, Muslim, or Jews

I have some timely news.

I have written the biblical book of Esther in rhyme

And it is ready to send to you at this time!

I am not asking for any money from you,

Just something that you can easily do.

In the Bible, Esther asked that all Jews fast for 3 days,

So, to continue the tradition I am asking you to help me in 3 ways:

•     Please send this blog to 3 people

•     View my campaign on Indiegogo

•     Leave a comment on my Indiegogo campaign

And I’ll give you 3 reasons why you should

Besides that for me it is good:

•     You will be letting people know that they can easily read and understand the book of Esther in a fun way.

•     You will be giving people the opportunity to read the Bible in rhyme.

•     You will be spreading hope. Yes, that is right. People will be reminded that Esther made a difference to many people and see that an ordinary person like me is reaching for a dream and they will be encouraged to reach for theirs! It’s International Women’s Day – reconnect with a book like Esther!

Here are 3 reasons why I think that people would like to know

That the book of Esther is now written in rhyme and ready to go:

•     This book is a great way to have fun teaching the book of Esther.

•     It is fun to read a book in rhyme!

•     You give people – of all religions and ages – the chance to be inspired by Esther who took her situation in life and used it for good!

And now I will thank you in 3 ways:

•     Thank you very much!

•     Todah!

•     Merci!

What is the relationship between the Bible the Olympics and me?

Excerpt from Enjoying Genesis: The Bible in Rhyme by Marcia Goldlist

What is the connection between the Bible, the Olympics, and me?

  • In the Bible, Joseph swore to his father that he would take his body to Israel (which was known as Canaan at the time).
  • Olympians swear to themselves and their country to do their best at whichever sport they perform.
  • I have taken upon myself to strive for excellence in my writing, for this blog and in my books.

The Bible

Joseph promised his father that he would take his body to Israel. He had to get Pharaoh’s permission and he did.

The Olympics

Olympians work very hard at their sport. They give up a lot of private time to work hard to make themselves, their country, coaches, and family proud. Sometimes they receive medals and sometimes they come home disappointed.

Me

I have worked hard to write several books of the Bible in rhyme. My latest book is Enjoying the Book of Esther: The Bible in Rhyme. This is the book of Esther all in rhyme. I have decided to put this book up on an Indiegogo campaign. I hope that you will take a look and support my efforts!

Discuss with your children:

  • When do we need permission from people to do something?
  • Is it better to do something for yourself or for someone else?
  • If you could choose to be good enough at a sport to go to the Olympics which sport would you choose?
  • Would you be willing to spend the time needed to practice for the Olympics?

Creative Thinking

  • Come up with as many reasons as you can for why Pharaoh would or would not let all the people go to bury Joseph.

Homeschool Activities

  • Joseph promised his father that he would bury him in the cave in Israel. Write what you think it means to promise someone something?
  • What do you think it means to promise yourself something?
  • What do the Olympic athletes promise themselves?
  • If you were one of Pharaoh’s advisers would you support Joseph and his family taking Jacob’s body to Israel or not? Why?
  • How would you feel if you received permission to go to the Olympics?
      • Do you think that this is the same type of feeling as Joseph had when he received permission to take Jacob’s body to Israel? Why or why not?
  • Do you think that it was hard for Joseph to ask Pharaoh for permission to take Jacob’s body to Israel? Describe in some way (through a dialogue, a cartoon, a comic strip, play, journal) the internal discussion that Joseph had with himself.
  • Sometimes it is hard to focus on what we have to do. This is one of the important things that Olympic athletes must do – focus on their sport. In order to write my books, I have to put away time and focus on my work. Joseph had to focus on his promise and ask Pharaoh to let him take Jacob’s body to Israel. What would you like to focus on in your life? Pick something that you would like to focus on and make a realistic plan to help you.

I am not good at sports, but I do dedicate a lot of my time to writing books. Please take a look at my latest book which is featured on Indiegogo!

book of Esther, indiegogo, Rhyme

Congratulations to me!

I’ve learned a new trick!

I now have a campaign up on Indiegogo!

“What?” you might ask. “What is Indiegogo?”

Indiegogo is a crowd funding technique which allows ordinary people, like me, to raise funds from ordinary people like you (no offense). Simply put, I introduce a project – in this case the book of Esther in rhyme – and in exchange for you giving money to support the project I give perks, otherwise known as gifts, that are sent out to the contributors. There are different perks for different amounts of contributions.

My project: I have written the book of Esther in rhyme.

What you can do to help:

  • Click here and take a look at my campaign.
  • Pass my campaign on to others so that they can look at it.
    • You can put my link on your facebook.
    • Send out my link by email.
    • Tell your family, friends, and co-workers.
    • Send a tweet.
  • Buy a perk!
  • Give me suggestions on how to improve my campaign.

Thanks for any and all help that you give me!!!

Please click to see my Indiegogo campaign!

Jacob

Each son received an individual blessing from Jacob.

Excerpt from Enjoying Genesis: The Bible in Rhyme by Marcia Goldlist

Just before Jacob died, he gave each of his sons an appropriate blessing.

Bible Study Tools

Bible Talk

Discuss with your children:

  • Why is it important to treat everyone as an individual?
  • How do people differ?
  • How are people the same?

Creative Thinking

  • The blessings that Jacob gave were partly predictions for the future. Predict the future for your family members.

Homeschool Activities

  • Write a blessing for everyone in your family.
  • If someone were to bless you, what would you like the blessing to be?
  • Make a list of things that make people different from each other.
  • Would you like everyone to be the same? Why or why not?
  • Pick someone that you would like to be like. Would you like to be the exact same as them? If not, what would you pick to be the same and what would you want to be different?
  • Pick a famous personality, dead or alive, and write what you would change about him/her if you could.
      • Do you think that the change that you made would affect history? If so, how?
  • Write about your good traits and write a blessing for yourself about these traits.
  • Write about your bad traits and make a plan to change them for the better.
  • Pick someone that you do not particularly like, or get along with. (You do not need to tell anyone who this person is.) Make a list of their good qualities.
